My elbow has felt inexplicably bruised for months but didn't

This answer was rated:

My elbow has felt inexplicably bruised for months but didn't give me any trouble to talk of. In the last week or two it has become significantly worse, developing a burning sensation, and now it troubles me in everyday activity.
JA: The Doctor can help. To begin, how long have you had the burning? Have you used any medication for it?
Customer: No medication. felt burning for perhaps two weeks, gradual at first but now pronounced.
JA: Thanks for that. Have you seen a doctor about the burning?
Customer: No. I haven't seen anybpdy.
JA: Thank you so much for your answers. Finally, is there anything else in your medical history the Doctor should know?
Customer: No.

Hello! My name is Dr.Ehtisham. Welcome to JustAnswer. I'm reviewing your question now, and will post back with your reply momentarily.

Is your elbow swollen as well?

Regards

Customer: replied 2 day ago.
No noticeable swelling.

Is it on the side of elbow or center or back of elbow?

How old are you?

Customer: replied 2 day ago.
Side of elbow (outside). I am 67

Thanks for the details

You are suffering from inflammation of the extensor tendons at elbow

This is also called Tennis elbow

You need to take Ibuprofen and have physiotherapy

If that does not work then you will need a local steroid injection

Thanks for that. Is it ok to just keep using the elbow, as I normally would, and just ignore any discomfort? Or should I, along with the physio and ibuprofen, let-up on it?

You can use it as much as you comfortably can

With use of Ibuprofen and Physiotherapy you will be able to function more swiftly without pain

If I do all the sensible things, can you give any sort of guideline as to how long this condition might persist?

It can improve within a couple of weeks on treatment
