Hello, my name is Dr Uzair and I shall be assisting you today.

What is his age, does he have a fever?

Is the cough productive or dry?

he is 50 years old no he has no fever sometimes he brings up som phlem but not all the time

Alright, thank you.

Does he have any trouble breathing or talking?

no but he seems weak

he has no energy can someone come and look at him

Thank you for your response.
If there is no fever and he does not have a productive cough, then there is no need to be frightened.

He can continue taking the cough medicine and start on steam inhalations with menthol crystals, four times a day.

Saltwater gargles thrice a day.

Sleep with a head-up tilt of about 30 degrees at night.

Place a humidifier in the room he stays in the most.

Start on an antihistamine like Benadryl or Zyrtec twice a day.

If he develops breathing difficulties, cannot finish sentences, develops a fever or the cough becomes very productive then he should see his doctor for an evaluation.

what do you mean by productive

Productive means - cough that produces a lot of phlegm/sputum.

sometimes he does though

The steam inhalations should help with the sputum and phlegm, keep him hydrated so the sputum stays less viscous and keep an eye on his symptoms.
