I woke up with a round raised lump at the back of my mouth

This answer was rated:

I woke up with a round raised lump at the back of my mouth really sore. I did a salt rinse and it’s still really hurting.
JA: How long have you had the lump? Is it hard or soft?
Customer: It’s soft I woke up with it this morning
JA: Anything else in your medical history you think the Doctor should know?
Customer: On Omeprazole

Good evening, I am Dr Elliot. Is this lump still present?

Customer: replied 14 days ago.
It actually went when I did the salt rinse but the swelling is still there

Are you able to send a photo of it?

And is it still painful?

Yeah it’s still sore

Thanks, ***** ***** is not clear sorry, but I certainly appreciate it is not by any means an easy place to get a photo of. However the central part of the swelling appears slightly ulcerated. This could be a benign ulcer, however the fact that it settled with a salt rinse other than the swelling suggests this could be a small abscess/boil.

I think the salt rinse you have done is ideal, but I would continue this for 24 hours until it settles. If sore you can use something like bonjela. However if the swelling gets worse then I think you may require some antibiotics

After I did the salt rinse the ulcerated part vanished

Great, I think I would just keep an eye on it then. If worse over the weekend - please contact 111 to see an emergency dentist as antibiotics would be required, and also even if it settles, please make sure the ulcerated part has full resolved within a few weeks

Yeah it reduced massively when I did the salt rinse but the area is still very sore
Customer: replied 14 days ago.
I don’t know what to do about brushing round there cause I have an electric toothbrush but I think it will hit the tissue
Customer: replied 14 days ago.
I don’t know if this is a better picture of what it looked like before

Just loading it, taking a few minutes

That is clearer, but I would still advise the same

just try to stay clear of it when brushing to allow it 24 hours to heal

Ok cool thanks

No worries at all. I hope it settles down quickly as I appreciate they are annoying to have

Please could you kindly rate my response as this is the only way that I can be credited for answering questions, thank you
