This answer was rated:

2 days ago while running some fast interval sessions, I noticed a slight pain and tightness in my left hamstring just above the knee on the outside of the leg. I stopped immediately and jogged home. The pain seemed to have gone yesterday and my slow run warm up today was fine, but when I started running a faster session the tightness quickly returned and I had to jog/walk a couple of miles home. I have now iced and elevated for 20 minutes, but would like treatment suggestions and also to know if I could try running again in, day, three days as my programme would suggest?

Hello! My name is***** to JustAnswer. I'm reviewing your question now, and will post back with your reply momentarily.

Sorry to hear about this

This can be a muscle sprain

You should take Ibuprofen and apply ice packs on the hamstrings

Hopefully that will help in settling the pain

You may not be able to run for a week as it can make the pain worse

Please do let me know if you have any other question

Would you say it is OK to walk around over the next few days? And if I can run in (say) 3 days without pain then is that OK?

Yes you can walk around and reassess after three days if there is no issue then you can run

Thanks. Would you say it is more likely to be a mild strain compared to tendinitis given my description?
