Antibiotic interfere with blood test?

Antibiotic interfere with blood test?
Customer: replied 13 days ago.
Basically I’ve just been to hospital because I had a UTI that wasn’t going with antibiotics. They did a blood test (I am currently still on antibiotics) and they said no infection or inflammation. Does that mean the antibiotics are working and have killed it or could it have just hidden the infection? The only thing they found was traces of blood in my urine

Thank you for your question.
I will try my best to help you.
I will answer in a moment/request for further information.

How old are you? Male/ Female?

Since when are you having the infection?

When did you start taking antibiotic? which one?

Customer: replied 12 days ago.
I’m female, infection started last Thursday. Was on pivmecillinam till Saturday then nitrofurantoin until today

Please wait.

I am writing the answer.

Thank you for your patience.

Thank you for waiting.

I understand your concern.

I am very sorry for your symptoms.

When you are on antibiotic & getting tested for infection, then there can be a few factors.

If there is bacterial resistance to antibiotic, then signs of infection will come up in tests.

As there was no sign of infection, it is possible the bacteria was sensitive but may not be highly sensitive.

In this scenario, a culture of urine will be a good idea along with sensitivity tests.

This will find out the bacteria & most effective antibiotic to treat it.
I hope this information will be helpful.

The dr at the hospital said that as the blood test showed no infection the antibiotics were working. I just don’t know why I have such awful pain still

Yes, the pain should improve too as the infection subsides.

You can try Ibuprofen for a few days for pain.

Please take plenty of water too.

Customer: replied 12 days ago.
But I’ve finished the antibiotic and the pain is still here? Yet no infection and blood? So confused

You are on Nitrofurantoin now, is it?

Customer: replied 12 days ago.
I’ve just finished it this morning

You can take Ibuprofen 2 days & wait.

If the pain still continues, I would advise to take urinalysis & culture.

After 2 days without antibiotic, infection would flare up.
