I have recently been diagnosed with Barrett’s Oesophagus

Customer Question

I have recently been diagnosed with Barrett’s Oesophagus <3cm. I am 41, not overweight, don’t drink but have smoke never more than 5 a day for 23 years. I have no under laying health conditions. I have never suffered chronic heartburn, indigestion or GERD. However, in the past 3 months I have had 2 waking up at night with acid reflux. The only way they found the Barrett’s was they thought I had an ulcer. Could these two episodes of acid reflux caused this Barrett’s? If that’s the case am I lucky it’s been found quickly?

You have been lucky that it was found early, secondly it is caused by chronic changes in oesophagus.

You should consider yourself lucky that it was found early.

What is my outlook? Can 2 incidents of reflux cause this?
Expert:  Khizra Naz replied 19 days ago.

No- 2 episodes cannot cause this. This has been longterm secondary to smoking.

You will be on treatment for this for longterm.
