Hi I've been having breathing difficulty for a while now. I did a peak flow reading and the results are best 250 some readings below or slightly above, I work in a pharmacy so I do regular lateral flow tests twice weekly. My pharmacist referred me to my GP but they have no available appointments and asked me to keep calling or ring 111 it's not an emergency but I think I need an inhaler, I had one many years ago but stopped using it as I used to smoke, I haven't smoked for over 16 years, but have found I'm getting breathless more often. Just from walking up the stairs, I have a family history of asthma, and I'm concerned I need medical assistance sooner rather than later. I previously had salbutamol
JA: Have you seen a doctor about this yet? What medications are you taking?
Customer: No doctor as unable to get appointment
JA: Is there anything else the Doctor should know before I connect you? Rest assured that they'll be able to help you.
Customer: I'm taking sertraline and clonidine

Hi, welcome to Just Answer.

I'm Dr. Javid, and I'll assist you today.

I need a bit more information.

How old are you and your gender?

Do you note any whistling noises when you breathe?

Hi Dr Javid

Hi!

Customer: replied 9 days ago.
I'm female 53 yes old and only occasionally whistling

Ok, got it.

I will answer in a few minutes.

The peak flows you are reporting are quite low (normal values being 400 plus).

Whistling sounds also suggest a spasm of the airways.

Salbutamol is a short-acting beta 2 agonist.

I would recommend a combination inhaler with a beta 2 agonist plus steroid.

If there is a delay getting to the GP, you should go to Accident and Emergency and gain access to treatment on an urgent basis.

I hope this helps?

Please let me know if you have any questions about this.
