Okay thanks. So you will need to see a dentist. However in the short term as if you haven’t taken anything so far, I would suggest paracetamol and ibuprofen. You can then buy Co-codamol 8/500 from a pharmacy without a prescription.

Another thing that helps is by using a soft bristle tooth brush and brush gently with a medicated tooth paste such as Corsidyl which again you can buy from a pharmacy.

If the swelling starts to spread and you feel unwell then I would not delay seeing a dentist.

I would also encourage an annual review to help reduce this from happening again.

You can try 111 and asking to be put through to your emergency dentist.

If however the swelling is spreading quickly then it would be appropriate to attend Accident and Emergency to be assessed.
