I have a very sore throat especially on the right hand side

Customer Question

Hi, I have a very sore throat especially on the right hand side where I think my lymph node is swollen. I also have a horrible neck, shoulder and lower back pain, and a headache that feels like it constantly covers my whole head and peaks in different places. I've had these problems for a couple of days.
JA: How long have you had the symptoms? Do you have a fever?
Customer: A few days, no fever
JA: Is there anything else the Doctor should know before I connect you? Rest assured that they'll be able to help you.
Customer: I don't think so

Do you have any nasal discharge or headache?

Have you done COVID test?

Customer: replied 6 days ago.
Headache, negative covid test
Expert:  Zee J replied 6 days ago.

Thanks

Most likely then you are having Flu

Customer: replied 6 days ago.
I don't have fever, or flu symptoms
Expert:  Zee J replied 6 days ago.

Then most likely some viral sore throat like common colds

Expert:  Zee J replied 6 days ago.

If you do not have fever then less chances of bacterial infection

Customer: replied 6 days ago.
But only one side of my throat hurts, where my gland feels and looks enlarged
Expert:  Zee J replied 6 days ago.

Thanks

Yes that could happen any infection

Expert:  Zee J replied 6 days ago.

Sore throats are very common and usually nothing to worry about. They normally get better by themselves within a week.

Customer: replied 6 days ago.
But I have no other infection symptoms, this is incredibly painful
Expert:  Zee J replied 6 days ago.

So what are you suspecting then??

Customer: replied 6 days ago.
I don't know, that's why I wanted to talk to a doctor
Customer: replied 6 days ago.
I know my body and this doesn't feel like a normal sore throat
Expert:  Zee J replied 6 days ago.

Thanks

So in my opinion it is just a sore throat which could be better in few days

Expert:  Zee J replied 6 days ago.

what treatment you have used until now???

Customer: replied 6 days ago.
I appreciate your opinion but I disagree, I have been taking painkillers, using ice packs and geat compresses on my neck but no difference for the last 3 days
Customer: replied 6 days ago.
heat compresses
Expert:  Zee J replied 6 days ago.

No problem you have the right to disagree

Customer: replied 6 days ago.
Should I talk to someone in person?
Expert:  Zee J replied 6 days ago.

If you suspect that you are having bacterial infection and needs antibiotics then better need to have a throat swab with your GP/doctor

Customer: replied 6 days ago.
You said that no fever would mean it is unlikely bacterial infection, I will contact my gp
Expert:  Zee J replied 6 days ago.

Yes less likely bacterial infection

Customer: replied 6 days ago.
Thank you, ***** *****
Expert:  Zee J replied 6 days ago.

However as you are really worried better to have a swab test once to make it clear

Expert:  Zee J replied 6 days ago.

I would suggest few more things like saline gargles

Expert:  Zee J replied 6 days ago.

How to gargle with salt water

  1. Dissolve half a teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water (warm water helps salt dissolve).
  2. Gargle with the solution, then spit it out (do not swallow it).
  3. Repeat as often as you like.

Expert:  Zee J replied 6 days ago.

Plus both

Paracetamol 500mg tablets can be taken as 2 tablets every 6 hourly (maximum 8 tablets in 24 hours safely)

Ibuprofen 200mg tablets can be taken as 2 tablets three times a day (maximum 6 tablets in 24 hours safely).
