You do not need a referral to get an MRI scan done privately.
Google 'private MRI scan near me' to find a list of labs which offer this. You can simply call and make an appointment, and get it done by self referral
However you do not really need to do an MRI for this in the early stages.
Such headaches associated with muscle stiffness at the nape of the neck are called 'Cervicogenic headaches'. They are also called occipital headaches. This occurs due to stiffness and spasms of the muscles at the back of the neck.
You can take some steps for this:
Exercise: exercise is the most effective remedy for this in the early stages.
Look up here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GK3lNhU2_vU Heat: Use warm compresses for this
Massager: If you have a hand held massager at home, use this
Medications: pain killers like NSAIDS, will help when pain is more.
Lifestyle changes: Regular exercise is essential. Use a firm mattress, mattress should neither be too hard nor soft. Be careful of posture - have a firm posture and avoid slouching. Be careful specially when working on the computer. Avoid lifting heavy weights. Pillows should neither be too high nor too low while sleeping.
If pain persists after this, you have to approach your doctor. Your doctor can prescribe other treatment for this.

You need not get so worried about this. Instead of going for an MRI, you can try the steps I suggested.
Yes, it may be a side effect from holding your neck stiff while they did the procedure.
If it lasts more than a month, you should see your GP
