What is the likely hood of tyramine being the cause of

This answer was rated:

Hi what is the likely hood of tyramine being the cause of hypertensive crisis? I had increased my diet with blue cheese etc to do more keto. Also drinking red wine etc. Required antihypertensives due to very high random spikes in BP 220/120. If this is a cause how can you confirm? And what is the recovery plan? Do you have to be on antihypertensives forever after this?

What made you think tyramine has caused that increase in blood pressure?

Customer: replied 13 days ago.
I’m basically a healthy 35 year old female. No history of high bp. Over the past 3 weeks I had to go to A&E three times due to high BP one went to 220/185 although this maybe due to anxiety. I’m trying to find a reason behind this. I have in the most recent weeks been having blue cheese a lot to be more keto. This was one of the only changes I could think of?

Also cured meat, red wine. I also increased alcohol as I was only Holliday.

What do you think?

You are actually right in thinking that as Tyramine is a precursor of many hormones which are involved in increasing blood pressure . So High Bp is related to tyramine intake.

For future you need to be careful with these foods.

Ok great, so what do I need to do? And also does this mean I won’t need BP medication long term?
Customer: replied 13 days ago.
Obviously I will discuss with my GP before I do anything

Anything I can do to help my body recover?

Yes take lemonade it will help in detox.

7 glasses of water will be fine .

I have been drinking lots of water. Do you think that if this is the case, I won’t need blood pressure medication long term? I have been taking for 5 days. If I speak to my GP should a request a referral to someone? And if who? Thanks

Keep a record of your blood pressure. Measure twice  a day everyday.

What do you think?

You can ask for refrral to a medical specialist .

Yes if blood pressure is coming normal so there is no need for medications.

You can go off of them . But record BP twice a day and write down.
