Hi can having high cholesterol for a year or so in your 20s but then reversing this through lifestyle changes still clog your arteries?

Hi. I’m Dr. Mark.  I’m a board certified physician and happy to assist you. Give me a few minutes to respond. Thanks.

The answer is no.  Having elevated cholesterol for a year or so will not cause atherosclerosis.  That’s the medical term for clogged arteries.  We look at LDL cholesterol and Apo A and Apo B.  These types of cholesterol have to be elevated for many many years to clog the arteries.
