I had blood tests taken last month and the results came back

Customer Question

I had blood tests taken last month and the results came back something to do with my liver count being 117 when it should be under 50. This concerned me as I have been drinking more than usual for at least 2 months before the test.
I have cut back to 2/3 bottles of wine a week. Do you think in 3 months if I get another test my bloods may be more healthier or should I be more concerned. I am female, age 57 retitivley good health otherwise.
I am embarrassed to go to my doctor just now, hoping that by reducing my alcohol intake I may have better results in 3 months. I have delayed the appointment.i don't drink everyday. 3 days a week at the most.

I will try to answer your question. But there is no such thing as a liver count. There are many enzymes that can be measured from the liver including ldh, ast and alt. One of these may have been elevated. Heavy drinking can cause them to be elevated. Generally several drinks daily. Cutting back may or may not help. Stopping may or may not help That depends on whether permanent damage or fatty liver has occurred. If this is the case, then the blood work may never be normal. If you cut back significantly you have a good chance of the test being normal in 3 months.
