Is your vehicle an A Class?

Is this a fully automatic gearbox or a semi auto?

Best regards, Paul

In the first instance I would recommend a diagnostic check for codes to see what is causing the problem. There are many possibilities & would not write the car off just yet.

However the most common problems are with the valve body or internal gearbox faults which as you may have already found out are very expensive to repair & often exceed the value of the car.

However without the initial diagnostic checks it is impossible to say.

The oil level should also be checked but unless you have a major leak causing the oil level to be very low this is unlikely to be the cause.
