2003 mercedes S350L - small oil leak at the bottom of the oil

2003 mercedes S350L - small oil leak at the bottom of the oil filler neck; running down the side

This is usually the cam cover breather housings leaking although could also simply be the oil filler cap seal.

The breather housings are a very common problem however & we reseal these all of the time for leaks here.

The coil packs need to be removed & then you will see the bolts holding the breather housing to the cam covers. Once removed they should be thoroughly cleaned & all old sealant removed. Any engine silicone sealant should do the job but Mercedes sell their own sealant in small tubes - I would recommend getting the correct sealant from a dealer.
Apply the sealant & refit.
