E 350 Coupe, 2010, 76,000mls. Steering has become 'lumpy' at low speed. Almost like corners or lumps when turning wheel. Any ideas?

Can you offer a rough guess at probable repair cost?

1st thing to check is the condition of the steering joints on the steering column

I'd suggest to jack the car up so the front wheels are off the floor and then move the steering form lock to lock to try and feel for the tight spots

if you find a location where the resistance is high then spray the 1st column joint with some oil and see if it then improves

if it doesn't then move onto the next joint and try again

if lubricating the joints makes no odds to the tight spot then its possibly the balljoint on the end of the steering rack

so try disconnecting 1 side and see if this makes any difference to the tightness

if not then try disconnecting the other side

if neither of these makes no difference and you have both sides disconnected then you're left with a possibly faulty steering rack

let me know what you find
