earlier today I noticed white smoke coming from the exhaust whilst driving but also after i'd stopped the car and turned the engine off. It started fine after that and no further white smoke when drove later on. All within the space of about 30 mins. Just checking if it's a one off or whether it could be serious. It's an e220 cdi 2015
Assistant: How many miles are on the car? How has your mileage been lately?
Customer: 35,000. not done a long journey for a week or so
Assistant: What year is your MINI?
Customer: It is a mercedes 2105
Assistant: Are you fixing your MINI yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: It's a mercedes 2015 not i've not tried to fix it as i'm no expert.
Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: no

Sorry for the extended wait time you've experienced, I've only just come online now and would like to assist you with your question.

I'd say to 1st check the level of the engine coolant as if its burning coolant inside the engine then this will produce white smoke

what I do think is more likely though is this is just condensed water inside the exhaust so perfectly normal

so if the coolant level is not dropping then its nothing to worry about

Thank you for this. Being a complete novice on cars how do I check the coolant level and what would the container look like or is there a symbol for coolant I should look for. Thanks

ps I have had no warning lights come on the dashboard

no warning lights is a good sign

if you take a look at the attached image you'll see the coolant tank is marked 'E'

undo the cap ( ensure its cold 1st) and check teh coolant level is up to the 'max' mark on the side

sorry I meant to say its marked 'C'

not E
