Hello & Welcome to Justanswer.
"Something happened and the install of Windows 8.1 can't be completed"
Is that the exact error you're getting?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.

Do you see any error number like "0x0"?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.

Okay. There are two ways we can continue:
1. I can connect remotely and troubleshoot the issue to make it work (no matter how long it takes) for $24 additional.
2. I instruct here, so we work through the question/answer mode.
Let me know what you prefer.

option 2

please open command prompt as administrator.
and type:
net stop wuauserv hit enter
net stop bits hit enter
browse to the C:\Windows\Software Distribution folder and delete all the files and folders inside.
You may be told files are in use, if so, restart your device, and run the commands above again,
but this time make sure the Windows Store app isn't open.
Now back to the Command Prompt and type the following commands one at a time:
'net start wuauserv' hit enter
'net start bits' hit enter
Then try updating and let me know the results.

I processed the data as you requested but I still cannot update to windows 8.1

When you typed the commands in the command prompt, were you given any message in return?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.

Can you post me a screen shot here of the command prompt commands as they are the most important step here and i need to see them in order to assist further or if you want i can connect remotely and fix this.

Sorry, your direct code has expired before I got to it. Please do again

Probably too late but I was able to complete setting up the transfer to windows 8.1 but on the opening of the system I stopped at 'opening the PC's settings' and I got a message that the transfer to the updated version could not proceed and that I would revert to the previous windows version. Are you able to look at this again?
