I'm assuming a Microsoft problem...) My elderly laptop, running Windows 10, has suddenly developed a 'ratio' problem in its display. I.e. it's too wide for its height. I'm not aware that I did anything to cause it. I'm not very computer-savvy. Can I reset it?

Hi there and welcome

Have you restarted the laptop since this had happened?

Please let me know

Oh yes, several times. First resort of the layman.

Thank you

Right click on the screen on your desktop and select Display Settings

Then go to the resolution and change it.

Try different resolutions until you get the display you had before.

Let me know the results please

Thank you

I have done this - it gave me only 2 options, incl. 1024x768 (which I think is what I want) but makes no difference to display.

ok, I want to do a system restore please.
To do this, close all programs.
Press the windows key (the one to the left of the left ALT key) + R and type in the run box that opens
Press enter
Then follow the onscreen steps to choose a system restore and choose a date before this problem occurred.
Let it complete and tell me if it now functions correctly please

Slow but sure! All is back to normal. I still don't know the cause. Thank you for stopping me going off down paths I don't understand (which I'm prone to do).
