Hi Ian .

Can you remove the EGR and block it off with a thin sheet of metal ,coke can material
will work good ,the EGR when bad will give you a lot of black smoke on acceleration.

Do this then get back to me .

Customer: replied 2 years ago.

assuming if I blank of the EGR and it stops the smoke the EGR valve is faulty?

do I blank it on the manifold side or the EGR pipe?

are here any other possible causes?

I have heard that the injectors start to fail at around 120K miles.

also that the fuel pump can start to fail.

Yes this i was going to get to, the fuel pump and injectors ,mostly injectors cause this
befoire the pump fails ..

Between the manifold and EGR blank it off then lets see. .

Hi .

Make any headway with this issue .

If the blanking off of the EGR made no difference then have the injectors tested .

if these show good then injection pump will have to be checked .
