turns over for a while before it starts some time cuts out at junctions and really plays up when fuel filter is changed
Assistant: Is the fuel filter an external one, or is it inside the tank?

Customer: going to fix myself someone suggested fuel filter pump housing

Yes a very common issue for a hard start that the filter primmer pump is the problem .

If after the first start and then you switch off the engine and 10 minutes later starts up no problem

then this could be your problem.

What you can do to test this :

First thing in the morning with a engine that has not been starter for over 10 hrs .

Pump the primmer pump 40 plus times or until you fill the pump is hard ,

then try and start if she starts up faster than normal replace primer pump as the one way valve has failed.

still having the same problem test the glow plug system.

Okay good ,

Now when you do get the engine to start what colour smoke comes out the exhaust .

Did you check or recheck for any malfunction codes .
