I have a pedal bicycle, I'm hoping ok to ask as obviously is

Customer Question

Hi,I have a pedal bicycle, I'm hoping ok to ask as obviously is not a bike with an engine.
It came set up except the handles were on backwards so we unscrewed the centre bar where the two handles join and this slides into the body of the bike. It made a dropping sound when we undid it like something fell so we tipped it upside down and a slanted metal piece along with a slanted metal washer fell out, these screw into the main handle join. The thing is it now will not all fit together so we don't know what to do, maybe if I sent photos that would help? I've emailed the manufacturer but no reply after seven.days.

Was it the piece I have circled which dropped off.

Steve

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
the silver piece and the washer on top of it
Expert:  Steve replied 1 year ago.

Have you got a picture of the silver piece and washer please.

Steve

Expert:  Steve replied 1 year ago.

I have attached a diagram of how it should go together, the top securing bolt should be loose when slid into place the lower piece I circled should be free to go into the forks tube followed by the silver handle bars tube.

Once in position the top securing bolt should be tightened and it will draw the tapered piece up clamping it in position in the tube.

I hope this answers your question but I want you to be 100% happy with the answer so do please feel free to ask any further details by replying to this thread.

Hi Steve, thankyou we've managed to get it back on now . I wonder if I can ask more bicycle questions in this thread or would need to start a new question? The new issue is that I took the chain cover off to attach the chain, I put the screws safely away, now when I've gone to screw it back on I notice that the screws have no nut which I noticed before, but now the chain cover falls off, so I cannot understand how just a screw with no nut was holding it in place. I'll send photo.

Hi, I am away from the computer at the moment so unable to look at the pictures, I will be back in a couple of hours and have a look then.
Is it possible that the nuts dropped off when the bolts were removed?
Steve
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Thanks Steve, no it's not possible as they would have made a noise on the floor or /and been seen and my hand was underneath. I forgot to mention also im not sure if you can see in the photo but one has a washer and the other has no washer but sort of a washer welded to the screw.
Expert:  Steve replied 1 year ago.
Ok, I will have a good look when I get back and let you know what I think the problem is
Steve

Hi

Back now and I have had a look at the photos. It does look as though the bracket the bolt goes into was threaded, but this is quite common, the brackets are soft material and the threaded area is very shallow, if the bolt is tightened up fractionally too much then the thread will be stripped.

I think this is what has happened.

You can get threaded fittings such as this one CLICK HERE which will clip over the bracket and allow the bolt to screw in.

This should solve the problem.
