Customer Question

I am a 17 year old old suffering from migraines at the moment.
I am currently working in a IT field as a field engineer but problem is 20% of the work I do I have no clue about but 80% I do.
The migraine, It comes quite frequently about 3 or 4 times a week but I recently suffered from a severe one which each time I tilted my head I would receive the headache reaction. Now this is getting really annoying and I am on Half Inderal 80mg. I am also working full time a week (37.5 hours weekly) Each time I come home I have a slight headache but I have never had headache like this before work. I am taking my meds everyday and still is not changing anything. Can you suggest to me what's best action to take I can't seem to be always having days off from work as sick as it doesn't sound too good so is it worth reducing my hours? please advise.
Ps: I have had my blood test which looks normal, also had MRI scan that has come back as OK.

Thank you

Doctor-Bob :

Have you been having any sinus pain or pressure? Any congestion or nasal discharge?

Customer: replied 5 years ago.

I can't run anymore either as I get the headache to the right hand side of the head but it's going very severe now and have to take days off work

So the headache is only on the right side of your head? Is it always in this location or does it move around? Are your eyes sensitive to bright light?
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
Recently its been on the right hand side but at times it moves over to the left of the middle of forehead. I don't know what this can be? I hardly eat anything that I know of that triggers this its all randomly... Can it be because of work and my age? Please let me know

Migraine headaches can behave this way, and they often start in one's teens or early 20's. Sometimes they run in families. They can be triggered or made worse by stress, fatigue, poor sleep and poor dietary habits. Another consideration in those doing a lot of computer work would be headaches from eye strain. Have you had your eyes checked recently? Whether the headaches are related or not, this would be a good idea if you have not done so in the past year or two. You might also consider asking your GP for a headache prevention medicine such as amitriptyline or topiramate...or to refer you to a neurologist who can work up your headaches and develop an appropriate treatment plan.

Thank you .

Yes I had my eyes checked regularly and they said its fine but we will still give you glasses i wore them for a few months and afterwards headaches got worse so im not wearing any glasses at the moment. My GP reffered me to Neurologist who prescribed me Half Inderal tablets( from UK) So I don't know what else can this be from ..

I see. Have you had any prolonged time off work to see if your symptoms would improve. Sometimes simply taking a week off and going on vacation somewhere can tell one a lot. The symptoms could be from too much stress or poor sleep or low grade dehydration. Is some cases, it can be related to an unknown exposure at work (e.g. a chemical or allergen). Inderal can be effective in vascular headaches but is not likely to work well for other types of headaches, so if the problem persists, go back to your neurologist and ask to try something else..perhaps amitriptyline or topiramate. In the meantime, endeavor to take good care of yourself, including by eating a balanced diet, staying well hydrated with fluids throughout the day, exercising regularly (30-45 minutes daily), including periodic hiking or nature walks, and getting at least 7 or 8 hours of good, uninterrupted sleep every night. These things can go a long way toward preventing headaches and improving one's quality of life.

Did you have any further questions, Hamidullah?
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
Will migraine ever go or is this something that's permanant?
Expert:  Dr. Bob replied 5 years ago.
Migraines sometimes come once and never again. In some cases, they come intermittently throughout one's life. It's impossible to say in advance. But if they do recur, they can usually be well managed. Good lifestyle choices and avoiding known triggers can help a lot in most cases. Medications are usually needed at times to either treat or prevent them, but many who do require meds can get off them for long stretches.
