Is it normal to have memory problems a around 6, 7 years

This answer was rated:

Hello. Is it normal to have memory problems a around 6, 7 years before the menopause? My mum had hers at 50. I started having problems last year, at 44. I used to trust my memory, but now it plays tricks on me.

Hello, I'm Dr Osula, how are you?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I’m good, thanks. And you?

what type of memory problems are you having?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I had to start using a calendar with all appts whereas I never needed before.

if u see any phone call requests, please ignore

Please explain your memory problems, i.e what type of things do you forget, short term or long term , and any other symptoms you've noticed

With my daily medicine, sometimes I forget if I just took it if I get distracted in a conversation with husband at breakfast

Any other symptoms?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
It’s just that I used to be more sharp. But I also had a burnout with work and this started after that
Customer: replied 1 month ago.
No other symptoms

ok, I would not assume its down to menopause as there are other causes of memory problems such as low vit B12 for instance

I'll advised to do some blood tests including hormones to check for menopause, Vitamin B12, and other routine bloods

Ok. Thanks very much doctor

You should also tell your doctor to do a memory test which gives a score out of 30. If you have a certain score, your Doc might want to refer you to a memory clinic

You are way too young to have memory issues so in your case I'll investigate

any further questions?
