hi there, where is the burning smell coming from?

 

under the hood? in the cab?

Hi. It seemed to be coming from the exhaust area. The engine management light on the dash did not come on. The engine just won't fire up at all as if there was a fuel blockage. Many thanks for any help. A friend says it might be the ECU I don't know.

No but is there some unit for recycling exhaust fumes ? A friend says it might be ECR I think he called it

Thats the EGR, but it should not keep the engine from starting.

 

You really want to know if your missing fuel since it won't start.

 

If fuel ends up being there, then checking the glow plugs would be next.

Could I blank off the EGR or would it be dangerous or damaging to the engine

Yes, it won't hurt a thing.

 

You can make your own blanking plate for it or buy one of ebay.
