Customer Question

hi, i have a 53 plate nissian x trail (2.2CD) with 99000 miles. every thing was fine until a recent flood in Devon and I drove through deep water. it has now started to whisle under excelleration (under load) and sometimes when I rev the engine. its performance has not been effected and I have driven it back home some 300 miles without incident however the noise is still there. any ideas please.

Hi .

After fording in water you will have to have all liquids and fluids checked for contamination of water , Engine oil will turn a creamy colour if contaminated ,automatic will turn pink, Manuel will also turn creamy,

Check the inlet system for water, if the whistling is still there after changing the air filter ,
Check the belts and pulleys also the alternator could be the cause .
you will have to lift the bonnet and check and see whertew ther noise is coming from , .

If you still need further assistance then please don't rate, just get back to me with the reply button, and I will get back to you or inform another expert to assist.

the depth of water was not that significant to enter the air box. have checked the filter, which was new a month ago and no signs of water damage or dampness. the sound does seem to be coming from the turbo though?

Hi .

This will make more sense if it the turbo as a turbo will whistle under load .

Have this checked soon before this becomes an expensive repair
