2002 x trail sport . sensor for cat conv has set engine management

2002 x trail sport . sensor for cat conv has set engine management light on , how to reset it and fix as i think its the sensor not the cat , can the sensor be cleaned or hit with a hammer (lol)

Hopefully i can help.

Lambda sensors usually have to be replaced as its most likely depending on the fault code the circuit as part of the sensor thats faulty- cleaning can sometimes help normally if the sensor tip is fouled with carbon "that usually happens on cars seldom used" then cleaning would be worth trying but you'll need to get it out would be advised if the sensor has been found to be faulty have it will need to get direct heat on the sensor where it screws into the system to expand the threads to get it shifted as most of these do tend to get badly seized on the reset sometimes the ecu will reset itself.or you can disconnect the battery for a few moments or have the machine you had plugged in to erase the faults codes.test drive to ensure the engine management light doesnt reappear..I do hope this helps
