I am a 65yr old female and have had an iud coil for over 30

I am a 65yr old female and have had an iud coil for over 30 years. At my last smear test I was told it had to come out but I am not sure why. I am very anxious about the whole procedure as after all this time it is probably embedded in my uterus. A nurse tried to remove but has advised me that it will have to be done by a doctor using a local anaesthetic.
My appointment is not for 3 weeks, but the more I think about this the more concerned I become.
Can you please advise on what may be the danger of leaving it in.
My sincere thanks

Dr Owen : Hello
Dr Owen : let me read your question.
Dr Owen : Hi
Dr Owen : actually since this has been inside of you for 30 years and you have not had troubles, you can leave it in
Dr Owen : it really should not cause you troubles at this point.
