Customer Question

I am 20 years old and on my first packet of microlite. I have been taking it perfectly for the past 10 days and started on the first day of my period as instructed. On my birth control information leaflet, it says I am protected from pregnancy straight away and me an my boyfriend used condoms in addition to the pill for the first 7 days of the pack.
Last night we had unprotected sex and he ejaculated inside me. This morning I went to the bathroom and there was a lot of clear stretchy discharge when I wiped and every time I've gone to the bathroom since (although there has been significantly less each time) Today is the day I would usually ovulate were I not on the pill.
My question is to whether the discharge I am experiencing is actually due to ovulation and whether obtaining emergency contraception is advised.

Hello, In most contraceptives,, ovulation gets suppressed after 7 days of continuous use of the pills. But , the presence of clear stretchy discharge is a sign of high estrogen which leads to ovulation.Since microlite contains lesser amounts of progesterone and estrogen than other birth control pills, it may be possible in some cases for ovulation to occur in the first month of use. Please use emergency contraceptive - it will be better to be on the safe side to avoid a pregnancy.
