About 6 months ago I got a medical abortion, and ever since

Customer Question

Hello,About 6 months ago I got a medical abortion, and ever since I've been spotting between periods and having dark brown discharge. Lower abdomen pain comes and goes, no smelly discharge whatsoever. My last period was pretty heavy, it ended 3 days ago but I'm still getting a little dark blood. Is this normal? I am at sea for 3 months and it's hard to get in contact with a gyno, ahould I be worried and what could this be?Thank you very much.

How old are you?

Do you use anything for birth control?

Were your periods normal before the abortion? Thank you.

I'm 22, my periods were fine before, they still are fine (meaning they come on time) but just some spotting in between which i never had before and some dull pain that comes and goes. I went to A&E and the urine test showed nothing wrong, but could it be my cervix?
Expert:  Dr. Norm S. replied 1 year ago.

I assume that you're not using anything for birth control.

It could be your cervix, but I think that's not likely. If your cervix looked unusual enough to be bleeding, I think they would have said something in A&E.

With the abdominal pain that comes and goes, I hope that you were tested for STD's when you were in A&E.

As long as your periods are regular and you don't have any STD, I don't think it could be anything serious. Once you're no longer at sea, I would see your doctor for further evaluation.

How long after my period is it normal to have dark brown blood? It's been 3/4 days
Expert:  Dr. Norm S. replied 1 year ago.

It's not really normal to have dark brown blood at all after a period. However, as I said, it's unlikely to be anything serious. It may be some hormonal changes.

Since it started after the medical abortion, it's also possible that there is a little bit of placental tissue still inside. Once you're no longer at sea, an ultrasound would help to know.
