I am constantly getting tingling and numbness in my feet?

Customer Question

Hi, I am constantly getting tingling and numbness in my feet? What could be the cause and possible treatments?
JA: Have you seen a doctor about this yet? What medications are you taking?
Customer: I have spoken to GP, they haven’t taken it seriously. I am taking medications for BP and hyperthyroidism
JA: Is there anything else the Doctor should know before I connect you? Rest assured that they'll be able to help you.
Customer: no, I had a pretty bad neck pain and back pain but that’s resolved now, it’s just tingling and numbness
JA: Have you had any recent injuries? What seems to make the pain better or worse?
Customer: it’s very strange doesn’t seem to have any triggers just comes and goes randomly

Apologies for any intrusion of those automatic offers for phone calls. These are produced by the website automatically and outside of my control.

Customer: replied 18 days ago.
It has been just over a year

Thanks for the further information.

I am writing the answer for you and will get back to you in 3-5 minutes.

Unless you wish to speak in person, you can ignore the request for a phone call automatically generated by the website, not by me.

Thank you.

Your symptoms can be due to neuropathy.

Following are the causes of polyneuropathy (many times cause is not known);

1) Diabetes

2) Thyroid issue.

3) Excessive use of alcohol

4) Thiamine deficiency

5) Vitamin B 12 deficiency (pernicious anemia)

6) Vitamin B 6 (pyridoxine) taken in excessive amounts

7) Drugs, medications, herbs

8) Autoimmune diseases

9) Heavy metals such as lead and mercury.

Following investigations are advised (some of which had been done for you);

1) Electromyography/nerve conduction studies (EMG/NCS)

2) MRI of the spine and brain

3) blood glucose and glycosylated hemoglobin

4) serum B12 level with methylmalonic acid (with or without homocysteine),

5) serum protein electrophoresis

6) Antinuclear antibody

7) Lyme testing

8) Rheumatoid factor

9) Sjogren's syndrome testing (Anti-Ro, Anti-La Antibodies)

Skin and nerve biopsies are recommended after the results of these investigations, sometimes.

This should give the diagnosis and guidelines for the management.

Supplements and alternative integrative therapy protocols are;

1) Evening primrose oil

2) Acetyl-l-carnitine

3) Alpha-lipoic acid

4) Benfotiamine (Milgamma), 100 mg, is a lipid-soluble vitamin B1 analog

5) Vitamin E

Your physician may consider starting Gabapentin or Pregabalin if symptoms are significant and persistent.

I hope your symptoms resolve soon.

I would be happy to assist you further if you need more information.

I saw your blood tests.

You would need NCV, EMG, MRI of the back and neck, autoimmune panel, and inflammatory marker for the evaluation.

Customer: replied 18 days ago.

Expert:  Dr. Arun Phophalia replied 18 days ago.
