My foster son injured his elbow falling from his bike. The X

Customer Question

My foster son injured his elbow falling from his bike. The X Ray showed no broken bones but fluid in the joint - thought to be blood.
They have put him in a sling for 4 weeks
Why would there be blood in the joint?

This is Dr. Davidthe trauma from the elbow injury is enough to cause blood in the jointthere are small blood vessels in the joint space which must have been ruptured during the accident.he should use the sling and ice his elbow to decrease pain and swelling and elevate his elbow and arm to decrease swelling.the blood in the elbow will get better and get re-absorbed in timelet me know if you have questions.
