Hi, my son woke up with his eyes swollen and with mucus. Yesterday evening his eyes were just a little red. Should I visit my local GP or is it any eye drops I can use? Thanks in advance.

I would advice you to take him to the local GP.
This is because there are two possibilities due to which these symptoms can occur and only after clinical exam one can tell for sure.

Normally the secretions from the eyes drain through a small opening on the inner side of the eyes in to the nose. If this path is blocked, the symptoms you have mentioned can occur. Clearing the nose with saline drops and massage above downwards on the sides of the nose would help.

The second possibility is conjunctivitis - infection of the outer layer of eyes. After instilling eye drops, these will get relieved in 3-5 days.

To know which of these is the cause, take him to the GP.
