This is not a paediatric question as it is for me (age 47)

Hi there. This is not a paediatric question as it is for me (age 47) but I cannot find a general category. Hope you can help. I had a flu-like illness three weeks ago with sore throats etc and it got a bit better but also kept recurring (waking up with sore throats, persistent cough, sinus pain). I now have a terrible cough and in the last three to four days have developed a very painful sore (ulcer?) on the roof of my mouth. What do you think this can be? What should I do? I am currently on a skiing holiday. Many thanks

Hi, thanks, ***** ***** your query, will be replying in few seconds please. Dr. Yogindra

First please restrict activity to light, gargle frequently with hot salt water and sip only warm salty water. Eat bland dishes, suck lozenges containing anesthetic and antiseptic. Please also get an X ray chest when possible. This lingering virus needs investigations. May also take couple of times turmeric powder with honey or sugary/salty warm milk.

At bedtime may take anti-cough soothing syrup or suppressant tablet.

Good luck.
