Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.
What would you like to know?
What feeds is she on?
Is she gaining weight?
How are her bowel movements?
As long as the baby is gaining weight and is having good bowel movements, there is nothing to worry about either reflux or bottom wind. These are all normal physiological things that are seen.
Reflux is considered pathological only if there is no gain in weight, and if there is abnormal backward posturing by the baby.
In a growing baby , we see the following things -
1. Whether the baby is gaining weight
2. Whether the development is good
If these two are normal, then the baby is supposed to be health and no active treatment is required.
Let me know if you have anymore questions.
I have mentioned in my previous post about backward posturing which is the same as arching back which you have mentioned.
This is one of signs of reflux.
Cough again may be due to reflux.
If arching backwards is there, she may need medications to control reflux. She may require PPI medications like omeprazole.
In addition to medication you also need to pat her on her back after feeding to allow her to burp and also keep her in the upright position for at least 30 minutes after feeding.
You mean the bottom wind?
Is she your first baby?
That is what even I said.
As long as she is gaining weight and developing normal, we need not worry
All you have mentioned are normal physiological things and not to worry.
A crying baby is considered a normal baby than a baby who never cry at all.Only when the cry is incessant, it needs medical attention
Shakes are normal too.
You need to change your perception.
Since she is your first baby, you are very apprehensive.
No two babies are the same. So never compare your baby with other babies.
Your daughter is under the good care of her pediatrician.
As her pediatrician said and as I said, no need to worry as long as
1. She is gaining weight
2. Her development is appropriate for her age.
But I am a pediatrician :-)
I will repeat.
You should not compare your baby with other babies.
The consistency looks fine. I would not worry about this
Yes you are worrying for nothing.
That is the reason why I asked whether she is your first baby. Because everything about her is new to you and you are worried looking at even normal things.
Yes all babies do. But not necessarily all are seen in all babies.
You keep only the following in your mind -
1. Weight gain is good
2. Development is appropriate
Some amount of gas is again normal only.
It is a byproduct of digestion.
Only if the digestion is improper, then you need to worry. But if there is improper digestion, baby will not gain weight.
I usually advise the following-
1. Pat on the back after feeding till she burps
2. Keep the baby in upright posture for at least 30 minutes after feeding
We had a good lengthy discussion.
You had a good discussion with other experts also.
All I say before I wind up is stop worrying for nothing.
Kindly rate this chat before you close the chat window.
As I said they are all normal phenomena
You can expect significant changes at around 9 to 12 months when she would be able to stand and try to walk.
Upright posture will bring the changes. And as I said these are normal only.
At 5 months she would have just attained the milestone of rolling over
Poo looks fine.
We should not treat only looking at the poo. We should see in what way it is affecting her.
She is gaining weight and that is all I would see as a doctor.
Shall we close the chat?
I assure you. She is absolutely fine.
You need to trust me :-)
