I have attached an image of the symbol I believe you are referring to, this symbol indicates that the engine oil level is low and requires topping up. It should be checked using the dipstick under the bonnet.
If the engine oil level is not low then the low level sensor will be at fault and this will require replacing.

Yes if the light hasn't gone off and the level is correct it may need a new sensor, but the garage should be able to check this for you.
