Hi I have just bought a 2003 911 Targa. It has only done 30,000 miles and just had a major service when gearbox oil leak was fixed. I have heard so many stories about IMS bearing failures but just wondered if its worth getting this replaced on such a low mileage car?
Hello the 996 range is prone to issues with IMS bearing failure and the rear main seal leaking but while there are plenty of horror stories around, the issues don't occur on every car and probably effects about 10% of the vehicle population so to be honest I'd just drive the car and enjoy it, keep an eye out for oil leaks and a rattle from the front of the engine
