Hi, thank you for contacting My name is Russell. I will do my best to provide the right answer to your question.

It is possible that the printer is quite simply defective from manufacturer, and should be returned at once under what warranty provisions or return conditions the sale may have provided, probably through Amazon rather than through Epson. (Though if worst comes to worst, Epson will bear the responsibility if Amazon won't.)

In one line of Epson printer the E3 error is reportedly a 'platen gap' error... which is not fixable, not in a new printer at least, by anyone less than maximally skilled and equipped to service printers.

In short, it's a case where you need to return the printer to Amazon (or possibly to Epson.) It is not a case of your having done anything wrong that you need to correct.
