I have a Canon MP495. Using remanufactured ink. No problem in past but now coming up with error 04. Have tried the hold-reset button but no change

Are you facing this problem, after replacing the cartridge or while you are using it ?

Managed to get past the error but printer got turned off by mistake. Repeated my reset-button strategy but did not work this time. Then tried changing to another OEM cartridge, plus the reset-button strategy, again, no joy.


If you don't know the answer, never mind. I'll try with a new Canon branded cartridge tomorrow and see if that works

I just asked a question for clarification, but don't understand, what make you think, that I don't know the answer. Anyway, what you have said is my first suggestion, that is to try with a genuine ink cartridge, you can try it out and let me know the result, then we will go for other solutions, if that does not work for you.

well, as I can't get the Canon cartridge yet (its almost 10pm here), what are the other solutions you have in mind

Thanks Audrey for the update, see the other solutions completely depends on the issue with the new and genuine cartridge, because the problem you are facing is caused due to defective cartridge or printhead, if you face the same problem with the genuine cartridge also, then it will be 100% confirm about the printhead fault. Then, we can try some solutions, do you need them now, so that you can try them later.

I see. As the problem first appeared because the printer was switched off accidentally (I found from previous experience, after I had managed to get rid of this error 14, if I then switched off the printer for the night - the next day the error would appear again), I'd hope it was not the printhead at fault.


I can't get a new cartridge until tomorrow morning. I'll get back in touch then
