Hello my name is***** look forward to assisting and am very sorry to hear that you are having this problem.
I want to warn you that it is possible you will need to replace a part in order to fix this.
There are a few different things that can cause this and a couple different parts so we would need to troubleshoot to find out for sure.
What is the exact and entire error including any numbers?

I am afraid I now get no response at all. The message appeared in a small green area at the top right of the screen with no numbers.

I cannot remember exactly. It just said the printer was "in an error state".

Please try to print, as I need the error in order to help you or we are just guessing.

I am afraid the printer is not reacting at all. I have checked the cables. The printer is almost eleven years old and we have decided to replace it. So please don't worry about it any more.
