I have a Canon MF8580cdw printer on the start buttons the neon lights are not working so I cant copy.
Hi, thank you for contacting My name is Russell. I will do my best to provide the right answer to your question.

Please clarify your description of the problem. Does anything show on the printer's screen when it is turned On, or thereafter?
Do any lights show, near the screen, when the printer is turned On or thereafter?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

The screen is responsive everything works except the start buttons. I can remote scan and print OK but not copy

Please describe exactly what lights are On (or flashing on and off) on the printer's control panel. There may be an error code pattern that I can discern for you, to tell you what exactly is wrong (and if we're lucky, how to fix it.)

OK EVERYTHING WORKS on the printer EXCEPT the start buttons which have a small neon light on them which is not lit. I can scan and print by using a computer connected to it. I am unable to give you more information

OK this is my final response there are 2 start buttons ( 1 for black and white 1 for colour operations. They both have very small neon lights, these are not lit. Everything else works, I can both scan and print from the computer but not copy. I don't know what else I can tell you perhaps I need to get a Conon engineer out.

Perhaps having Canon repair look at the machine will be necessary. If you can Scan, and can Print, you ought to be able to Copy, using those buttons... to not be able to do so is puzzling.

If you have only tried copying from the ADF feeder, try copying from the glass sheet instead - and if you have only tried copying from the glass sheet, try copying from the ADF. You could doubtfully have a problem with the ADF feeder, in that it might be expecting to find originals loaded and sense those originals, before it will allow the starting of copying.

Try a hard reset, before calling for repair:
- with the Canon machine On, unplug it from the power, sharply and suddenly.
- leave it that way, unplugged from the power, for 1+ hour.
- plug it in to the power again. Turn it On if necessary; see if it now copies properly.
