Canon Pixma iP4950 with error code B200

Hi David. Welcome to justanswer.

Try these troubleshooting steps :

  • Turn off the power
  • Open the panel
  • Turn on the power
  • Wait for print carriage to start moving to the left.
  • Let it go past half way
  • Before print carriage reaches left hand side shut the cover.
  • Now check if the error persists or not.

Reply for further assistance.

Error persists.

Have you removed the plastic tape which is there on the cartridges?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
If you mean the tape you remove prior to installing, the answer is yes.
  • Unplug the power cable.
  • Open the printer
  • Push the whole print head mechanic to the center
  • While the printer still open, plug the power and turn it ON.
  • When the printhead still moving and is going to the very LEFT, close the cover.
  • Wait until its boot up.

No change

Take out all of the ink cartridges and then turn off the printer. Now turn the printer on and put the cartridges back and check.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No change. Still the same

Error B200 means the printhead voltage or temperature is not normal. Since these steps haven't resolved the issue then it means that the Printhead is defective.

How old is your printer?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
2 years.

Was there any kind of power outage in your area recently?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
None. I've just removed the print head and found black ink everywhere. I intend to wash it out and clean up everything else with alcohol. Then it will be a new printer. Thanks for your ideas, I was hoping a quick fix would cure it.

Try cleaning the print head. But be careful. You can watch videos present on youtube on how to clean the print head.
