Assistant: What is the machine's exact make and model? And can you guesstimate how old it is?
Customer: Canon Pixma MG3550
Assistant: What kind of computer are you printing from (Mac or PC)? What Operating System (OS) are you running?
Customer: High Sierra Mac
Assistant: How long has this been an issue? What happened right before this popped up?
Customer: I do not use the printer often. I do not know if there is an issue. I just do not know how-to.
Assistant: Is there anything else the Printer Technician should be aware of?

You are doing a copy not a scan.

Did you install the software for the printer?

It was working some time ago, but cannot remember, which program I used.

ok, look for the program called Canon Scan, open it and can within this, this allows you to save it to a PDF file

I think I found an answer. Through Preferences > Printers > Scan, and I opened a scanning window.
