Hi, I have a Panasonic DVD recorder model no DMR-EX95VEBS that will no longer tune the stations although the signal still passes through to the TV. Already recorded programs work, as does the DVD player, VHS, etc. The tuner displays a broken grey screen.
The signal strength is good but the signal quality is zero. it sounds identical to a post from about a year ago from Serena.
I am a retired mainframe computer engineer from the days when we didn't just swap cards so can still use a soldering iron if you can give me some advice.
Stuart you will need to get the RAM drive out of the machine there is a capacitor that goes bad and takes out the 5vdc supply to the tuner it should be evident what one it is when you get the drive out there are two other boards (from my memory) that have to be taken out to so you gain access, get that far if you do not see the capacitor let me know (it will be leaking or ballooned)

Thanks. It was a bit of a game to get the PCB out as you have to dismantle the DVD drive, associated metal work and the carrier for the small PCB. For a convenient access I also took out the hard drive.
However on inspection I have 2 suspect 680uf capacitors that look past their best and that I will replace. They are C1808 and C1236. Without a circuit diagram I can't be sure that I have the one you mean. Are you able to confirm that one of them is the right one?
I'd rather not reassemble this lot only to find that it needs to come apart again!!
Replace both and yes the bad one is a 680 (its been a long time since I did this) one is a resrevoir cap for the 5vdc for the digital tuner if both look bad just replace both and yes it is a job to do that but as I say its really obvious when you get in there
Stuart please remember to rate the answer positively with the rating bar of smileys or stars as this is the only way I receive credit fro the site thank you

I'm just waiting to purchase the Capacitors and, as ever, I've everything in the odds drawer but the right capacitance.
I'll definitely let you know how I get on.
