My Teac CR-H255 has developed a fault with the volume

My Teac CR-H255 has developed a fault with the volume control. When I try to lower the volume the opposite happens and the volume will rapidly peak!
JA: What device or product has sound issues?
Customer: My Teac CR-H255 has developed a problem with the volume control. When I try to lower the volume the opposite happens and the volume increases to full volume. The remote control is working as it should. Please could you advise.
JA: How long have you had your CR-H255?
Customer: Approximately 15years
JA: What have you tried so far with your Teac product?
Customer: manually initializing the settings
JA: Anything else you want the Electronics Expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: no

This problem can happen if dirt and debris builds up around the back of the volume knob.

You will need to try partially disassembling it and cleaning around the knob using electronic contact cleaner.
