Hi, In a moment of madness I took £100 out an atm outside

Customer Question

In a moment of madness I took £100 out an atm outside my workplace that a customer left behind and did not hand it in as lost property.
An investigation took place and I decided to resign before the disciplinary stage.
There has been no contact between the police and myself
I realise it will still be regarded as gross misconduct by my former employers but could I ask my lawyer to obtain the contact details of the customer who misplaced the money and return it to them without me facing a theft by finding criminal charge?
