Media are trying to charge me for an eighteenth month

Customer Question

Virgin media are trying to charge me for an eighteenth month contract because I am moving to an area which they don't service. I am not breaking the contract, they are, besides I don't have a written contract as I was initially connected by a telephone connection call. I have only been with them for four months and the want me to pay for what they say is the contract term.

What is the contractual basis for the 18 months if there is no written contract? Were you told about this over the phone? Did you tell them at the time you were moving? Why have they broken the contract?
