Westwood sit on lawnmower-electric clutch to cutting blades

This answer was rated:

Westwood sit on lawnmower-electric clutch to cutting blades from a switch on dash, draining battery when grass-cutting,only lasts about half an hour then after re-charge battery ???
Hi, my name is XXXXX XXXXX're having trouble today.I will do my best to assist you in resolving your issue.

Have you had the battery load tested?

If not it may have a bad cell,, so when you charge it it does not take a full charge.
Then the charging system on mower can't keep up and will discharge battery in a short time.

If you have a volt meter check battery voltage at battery before starting,
Then check it while engine is running.
Then check it after engaging clutch.

It should start off at 12.3 volts
after starting should be over 13volts
After engaging clutch should stay at around 13 volts.

Let me know what you have it battery checks out good.

Friend also advised that it maybe battery, actually bought a new battery thinking it would solve, tried that whilst trying to re-charge old battery, position now is no power at all with new battery or old.Tractor has been to dealers who checked circuit board, fuses etc but no joy ??? ps don't have voltmeter or circuit tester

Sounds like now you may have a blown fuse,,,,, or poor battery connection since the only thing you did was change battery.

Re check your battery cables as far as they go,,,,,, it may have broken from moving around.

They sometimes put a fuse behind or under battery.
Also in dash by ignition switch.

This question will stay open for as long as you need so bookmark page and if you can't find problem with battery connection or fuse maybe you can borrow a meter.

I just don't want you wasting money on parts you may not need,,,,, that is why we test voltages.

Thought l'd solved problem, connections at the back of dashboard switch seemed loose, pinched up and l was up and running however did one stripe of sports pitch and machine packed in again,no power at all, stumped ???

Good day.

Well I am sorry to hear you are still having issues so we need the voltages that I asked for earlier.

I have feeling it is either not charging or clutch is drawing so many amps it kills battery.

You can purchase a cheap meter it should have volts and ohms.
Heres one but I have seen them for as low as $10.
