Generator. Does the oil smell like it could have fuel mixed with it? Te oil smell may be from too high an oil level, or thinned oil from fuel contamination. The won't start needs to be examined, to see if it has spark when cranking, when it will not start. If it has spark, then we have to assume it is not getting enough fuel.
