We have a 875 series engine here upon starting it revs

This answer was rated:

Hi! We have a 875 series engine here upon starting it revs really high for a second or so then settles down and runs ok, Is this normal?
JA: What's the brand and model of your engine? How old is it?
Customer: It's a Briggs and Stratton 875 series 190cc on a John Deere JM46
JA: How long has this been going on with your engine? What have you tried so far?
Customer: It's about 10 years old
JA: Anything else we should know to help you best?
Customer: It seems to run good but for the first second or so it revs quite high!

You could try lubing the linkage with a dry silicone lube, and see if that helps, but it is not that unusual, as long as It settles down and runs ok. Nothing to be concerned about.

Just the governor bringing down the rpm to its set rpm.  Thanks!
